Company Profile (Description for members directory): The Somfresh fruits and vegetables Incorporated, which is commonly known or called as “SomFresh Fruits” is a privately owned company established in 2013 by businesswoman and managed by Somali women that trade agricultural commodities inside and outside the country.
Historically, Somfresh fruits and vegetables inc. was born out of intrinsic and natural entrepreneurship of Somali people in general, especially Somali women that are known for being business savvy and highly enterprising. Initially the company was create to provide livelihoods and generate income for her family in a difficult economic and family situation during the high of Somali Civil War in early 1990’s. Through the income generated from establishment of this company at the small scale business, the lady owner was also able to provide high quality, nutritious and balanced foods that include fruits and vegetables to her family but eventually she transformed into highly competitive and market-oriented agri- enterprise that not only generated income and profit but an agribusiness that focuses on empowering women-led households in Mogadishu, Afgooye and Bal’ad through creating self-employment and establishing fruit and vegetable stalls and supplying high quality fruits and vegetables to women vendors.
Somfresh is a sole woman-owned agricultural enterprises in Somalia that supplies the original organic, fresh and sweet yellow banana together with other high quality organic fruits and vegetable to major hotels in Mogadishu and other regions of Somalia; while maintaining strong partnership with fruit and vegetable growers from Afgooye and Bal’ad districts Lower Shebelle region and also expanding to agricultural village of Jowhar district of Middle Shebelle region; .especially those small and medium farmers including women farmers who grow fruits and vegetable crops in small areas as well as women fruits and vegetable vendors.
